What happens, start to finish.
A new barbershop is a small unknown, and unknowns are most of what makes a first visit uncomfortable. So here is the whole thing in advance, including the parts nobody usually explains.

- When to arrive A couple of minutes before your slot is plenty. There is no paperwork, no queue and nothing to check in to, and the chair will be empty when you walk in.
- Bringing someone Fine. There is a seat in the room for a partner, a parent, or whoever came along for the ride.
In the chair
Forty minutes, and most of it is the haircut.
A haircut here books a 40-minute slot. That is deliberate: it is enough time for a bald fade without charging for one, and enough to finish properly rather than at a run.
The conversation first
What you want, what the last one got wrong, how much time you actually have for it in the mornings. Bring a photo if you have one. Nobody is expected to know the vocabulary.
The cut
Cut to you, then blow-dried and styled, whatever the length. Brows, nose and ears detailed along the way, because they are part of the haircut rather than an upsell.
The finish
A hot-lather neck shave, then a hot towel and a shoulder rub. It is the last few minutes of every cut in this shop, for every client, and it is never a line on the bill.
Talk if you want to talk. Sitting quietly is a completely normal way to spend forty minutes and will not be taken personally.
Booking
A card on file, and no deposit.
Booking takes a card on file. Nothing is taken up front, and it is only ever charged in two situations: half the service if you cancel or move inside 24 hours, and the full price if you do not turn up at all.
There is a ten-minute grace if you are running late. Inside it you will still be seen, though the cut may have to be trimmed to fit what is left of the slot.
Waking up ill is the half, never the full.
One chair
The same hands, every visit.
This is a single-chair room. There is nobody else to be handed off to and no version of your cut that somebody else remembers differently. What you settle on in the first visit is on file for the next one.
It also means the book is genuinely finite, which is why the cancellation window exists at all. An empty slot in a one-chair shop is not a gap in a rota; it is the whole shop.
